It's different from the UK too, so here goes.
preschool - 3 - 4
infant 1 - 5 yrs
infant 2 - 6 yrs
standard 1 - 7 yrs
standard 2 - 8 yrs
However, you have to take into account that children are allowed to repeat, so we do end up with children older than this as you go up the grades, so for example, if a child is behind in standard1, He may repeat the standard and so be 9 years old and still in standard 1. This can happen agin through the school, so we end up having 14 year olds in standard 6 when they should only be 11/12. Our Punta Negra school has a 16 year old still struggling to pass PSE to get to high school.
